Valparaiso to Mendoza (updated 15/4/2011)

From Valparaiso to Mendoza

An early start for us...we had to be up at 6am in order to get to the bus station in Valparaiso....the bus itself was luxurious compared to ones we have been on in India...our seats were upstairs (yes a double decker coach) front row, with panoaramic windows and semi-cama (half bed) seats...very comfortable and fantastic views all round.

The weather was perfect, dry and sunny, the roads were smooth and the scenery was breath-taking...rugged mountain views and dramatic steep drops and sharp, sharp corners climbing up and over the Andes..

The only stop during our 8 hour journey was at the border crossing between Chile and Argentina...very organised, we went to one immigration desk to leave Chile, then to the adjacent desk to enter Argentina...it took about 50 seconds per person. Then our luggage was removed by porters, scanned and put back on the bus. Our hand luggage was opened, briefly viewed and back on the bus we got. They even served sandwiches and coffee on the bus, included in the ticket price.
